Before You Apply

Start With a Clean Surface

For the best performance, apply Cling Defense to a clean, dry surface that is free of dust and loose debris.

Cling Defense relies on its cling properties to stay securely in place without tape. Dust, dirt, and jobsite debris can interfere with that contact and may reduce its effectiveness, especially if you plan to remove and reuse the material.

For best results:

  • Apply to clean, dry surfaces.

  • Remove loose dust and debris before installation.

  • Avoid applying over excessively dirty or contaminated surfaces.

  • Check that the surface is suitable for protection before beginning work.

Reusability

Remove. Reposition. Reuse.

Cling Defense can be reused when conditions allow.

When applied to a clean surface, such as a clean countertop, cabinet, finished wall, or similar surface, the material can often be removed, repositioned, and used again.

However, jobsite conditions matter. If the material is applied to a dusty or debris-covered surface, particles can collect on the cling side and reduce its ability to adhere effectively during future applications.

What Affects Reusability?

Clean Surface
Helps preserve the cling properties for potential reuse.

Dust & Debris
Can collect on the material and reduce its effectiveness when reapplied.

Jobsite Conditions
Heavy dirt, dust, and repeated use can gradually reduce cling performance.

Bottom line: The cleaner the surface, the better the opportunity to reuse Cling Defense.

Recommended Use & Removal

Temporary Protection Works Best

Cling Defense is designed for temporary surface protection during construction, remodeling, painting, moving, installation, and other projects.

When used for shorter-duration projects, such as approximately one to two weeks, Cling Defense should remove cleanly under normal conditions.

When the material remains applied for extended periods, such as several months, residue may be more likely to occur depending on the surface, environment, and length of application.

For longer projects, periodically check the protected surface and condition of the material.

If Residue Is Present

Keep It Simple: Hot Water + Dawn® Dish Soap

If Cling Defense has been left in place for an extended period and residue remains after removal, harsh chemicals are not necessary.

Use:

Hot water + Dawn® dish soap

Gently clean the affected area using hot water and Dawn dish soap until the remaining residue is removed.

Do Not Use Harsh Chemicals

Do not use solvents, aggressive chemicals, or specialty cleaning products in an attempt to remove Cling Defense residue. They are unnecessary and may introduce additional risk to the finished surface.

Always follow the care requirements of the underlying surface when cleaning.
